OutdoorFest NYC Kicks Off June 3

Annual Festival in NYC Will Feature Camping, Trail Running, Hiking and More

New York, NY – May 3, 2017 – OutdoorFest announced the event schedule for their fourth annual celebration of the outdoors in New York City today, highlighting a campout, trail race, live music and several opportunities to get active in nature with local experts.  The festival will run from June 3-12, with most events taking place within the five boroughs of New York City, encouraging urban dwellers to take advantage of outdoor activities in their own backyard.

OutdoorFest begins on June 3 with an overnight campout in Staten Island, featuring a 5K Night Trail Race by CLIF.  The 75 acres of green space will offer the perfect backdrop for hikes and stargazing sessions, survival skills tutorials, outdoor yoga classes and fly fishing lessons.  Following the 5K Night Race (headlamps required), there will be live music from Brooklyn-based Bandits on the Run and bonfires, with all attendees encouraged to enjoy s’mores or beer provided by Sierra Nevada.

“After months of hard work, we are so excited to finally share the schedule for OutdoorFest 2017,” said OutdoorFest Founder and Director Sarah Knapp. “Along with our now classic events like the campout and mountain biking days, we're adding in a new sport with fly fishing and working with NYC Parks & Recreation to host the city's first official Slack Jam. We haven't announced the name yet but one of the world’s most infamous slackliners will be joining us on June 12th for a live demonstration. Ultimately, this year our focus is not just on creating amazing events but providing seamless connections between adventurers and guides, gear, and the larger community.”

Throughout the week, Paragon Sports will act as OutdoorFest’s Basecamp, hosting educational workshops on trip planning, survival skills and backcountry cooking, in addition to a Ladies’ Night Bike Meet-Up, inviting women to connect with local bike organizations. In addition to lessons at the Campout and a Fly Fishing 101 class, the Fly Fishing Series will culminate in a weekend trip to the Catskills, where beginners can get their waders wet and cast a line. Adventurers can take part in Guided Hikes with Lowa Boots, trekking everywhere from Manhattan to the Hudson Valley, including Breakneck Ridge and the Long Path.  Yoga and fitness classes, surfing, kayaking, stand up paddleboard, rocking climbing and mountain biking excursions will also be on the docket for an action-packed week.

OutdoorFest will close out with a Sunset Slack Jam in Riverside Park, where expert slackliners will showcase their skills and teach attendees their tricks of the trade.  For those who would prefer to test their balance on solid ground, Pop Up Yoga NYC will lead a sunset yoga class.
