This article is part of a 30-day series exploring adventurous living near Rockaway Beach, Queens.

6th Day in Rockaway: Yoga on the Beach

One of the best discoveries of my NYC adventure summer has been Yoga on the Rocks: a yoga studio that has donation based classes every day on the beach during the summer.

If you're not from Rockaway it's easy to get to the beach - take the A train towards Far Rockaway and then switch to the S shuttle at Broad Channel to the Beach 98th Street stop. Yoga class meets on the boardwalk at 95th Street (about five minute walk from the train).

I went Monday morning and it turns out that doing yoga on the beach is just as awesome as I imagined. We had a small class of 4 people, led by Brenda who brought us through a relaxing Vinyasa Flow class. While there were some surprise distractions (a drone of an early beach goer) and a few challenges (it's slightly harder to balance on sand) the natural ocean soundtrack made up for it.

All you need is a mat (or blanket), water, and a camera to take awesome shots of the ocean.
